I read from John-emezi Chikodi Helen regarding the reactions coming out of the video by Mazi Uwazurike on the demolition of a hotel in River State. I did not really know the actual story but Chikodi threw more light on it.
However no one is above the law, including the owner of the hotel. The owner of the hotel could have obeyed social distancing order. For ignoring the order, the governor has the right to force him to comply with the order. However for the hotel owner and those having a party when they should have been at home, sometimes arrogance begets arrogance hence Nyesom Wike took the action of demolishing the hotel.
We must know that coronavirus is deadly and has killed over 200,000 people all around the world.
Wike has the right to protect his citizens and the action of the hotel owner is reckless, stupid and selfish. Yes Wike could have sealed up the place but the hotel owner behaved arrogantly hence the governor used the full force at his disposal to teach him a lesson and for that to act as a deterrent to others.
Based on the above, I support the governor 100%. He has the duty of care to protect the life of his citizens. In addition to the demolition of the property, the hotel owner should be detained and charged for ignoring the order and putting the lives of people at risk. Well done Nyesom Wike! You have done the right thing.
Those criticising Wike should sit back ponder over the cause of Wike's action. Governor Wike demonstrated leadership as the lives of his people comes first. When the going gets tough, real leaders emerge.
