HATE SPEECHES AND THE REAL HATERS
By Osinachi Ujunwa
26th August 2017
I want to state bluntly that the resurgence and heightening of hate speeches in Nigeria today has its genesis in the present APC administration. In the build-up to the 2015 elections, the APC went haywire with divisive and scathing statements in proportions that have never been witnessed in this country since after the Nigerian civil war. On the back of such hateful, divisive and fallacious propaganda they rode to power. Now they can't contend the fire they ignited.
Remember the “monkey and baboon soaking in blood” of Buhari, the “parallel government” of Amaechi, the “hippopotamus” of no less a person than Soyinka himself, the “clueless president” of El rufai, among others.
If the stream is polluted upstream, surely the downstream will remain polluted. Once the present administration cleans up herself and start using the language of democracy and not that of dictatorship, negotiation and not threat, then the masses will naturally follow suit. Till then, they should better close down all social media.
In a similar vein, antecedent to hate speeches, restiveness and agitation is bad governance, rooted in greed, corruption, injustice and marginalization. Have you ever heard of a country where a sitting president has the audacity to announce to the whole world that his government will operate in the ratio of 97% to 5%(though don’t know where he studied his own maths) according to votes caste for him. What other division are we looking for, when the leader had already divided the nation. He went ahead to implement the obnoxious policy by deliberately and carefully leaving out an entire zone from his key appointments and you expect such a zone to remain calm and feel they are still part of the nation?
Yet we pretend that all is well. Surely Nigeria cannot succeed as a nation under such pretence.
Until the present administration goes back to the drawing board and do serious soul-searching and tell herself the raw truth and do a “mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa”( through my fault , through my fault, through my most grievous fault), and turn a new leaf, things will keep getting worse.
For now Nigerians know the true haters.
Hate Speeches and Hate Actions Against President Goodluck Jonathan
When Goodluck Jonathan was the President of Nigeria, there were so much hate speeches and hate actions going around from the North and APC party. See the hate actions of the North and APC and no one mourned about the hate actions. Even then, nobody threatened them. What would they have done then should they be President Goodluck Jonathan’s shoes?
