Muhammadu Buhari: Talking About Running Away
29 August 2017
During Muhammadu Buhari’s presidential speech few days ago, he mentioned irresponsible elements to start trouble and when things get bad they run away and saddle others with the responsibility of bringing back order, if necessary with their blood.
This is after mentioning that the late Chief Emeka Ojukwu came and stayed as his guest in his hometown Daura. Saying over two days we discussed in great depth till late into the night and analyzed the problems of Nigeria. We both came to the conclusion that the country must remain one and united.
To me, I believe here that the person he was refereeing to is Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu and Biafra.
For your information, during the ending of the Biafran civil war in 1970, there was a silent coup in Biafra then; Biafra Generals decided to call off the war because there were too much hunger in the land. Biafra Generals then decided to use captured Nigeria soldiers to negotiate for the end of the war. When the Generals told Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu what they plan to do, Ojukwu had no choice but to run to Ivory Coast.
The Generals’ negotiation is what they termed “no victor, no vanquish” meaning that nobody won the war. Even though now Nigeria still claims they won the war and eager to start another war.
After the First World War, it was declared “no victor, no vanquish” meaning that nobody won the First World War. Even though Germans still claimed they won the First World War and eager to start the Second World War. The Germans started the Second World War and they were slaughtered. Nigeria is trying to follow German footsteps.
The reason for this write-up is that it is not only Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu run away after a coup.
Nigeria had a coup in 1975, General Yakubu Gowon ran away to England when he was overthrown and Murtala Muhammad became the new head of state.
Nigeria also had a coup in 1985, General Ibrahim Babangida overthrew you Muhammadu Buhari, you couldn’t run away because you did not get the chance, you rather went to prison.
