President Donald Trump Nominated For The Nobel Peace Prize
Donald Trump is rumoured to be nominated for the Nobel Peace prize for the second year in a row.
The final day to submit nominations for the prize was Wednesday, and the winners will be announced later on in the year.
According to AFP the President is nominated by “an unidentified American” who wants him to be recognised for his “peace through strength ideology”.
The list for Nobel Peace Prize nominees is not released by the committee for 50 years, but those who have submitted nominations can publicly announce their choice.
Trump was also said to be up for the prize last year, when he was still just a nominee for the Republican nomination. But the award went to the President of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos for his efforts during the war with Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Farc).
A member of the Peace Research Institute nominated the American Civil Liberties Union, a group which staunchly criticises Donald Trump and has announced its intentions to fight his administration. Pope Francis, another person who has spoken against the president, was nominated by a Norwegian political party.
Previous recipients of the prize include former president Barack Obama (2009), Nelson Mandela (1993) and Aung San Suu Kyi (1991).
