The Politics on Biafra: The Land of the Rising Sun

Why did they tag the 15th January coup 1966 an Igbo coup and yet denied the people of South-South (Niger Delta) of not being part of Eastern region or Biafra. Major Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu is from Delta state (South South) and he is regarded as the conspiral of the coup. For the reason that Major Nzeogwu bears Igbo name does not mean he speaks Igbo or he is from the South East.

A Hausa, Yoruba or Ijaw man may have Igbo name, it does not mean he is an Igbo man or he is from South East. Mind you, this is what a lot of Hausa people think that because someone has Igbo name, he is automatically Igbo person.

In one of Major Nzeogwu’s interviews he quoted "WE IGBO SHOULD BE UNITED & NOT TREAT OTHER PARTS AS LESS IGBO" saying even though he is from South South, he regards South South and South East as the same.

The South-east and South-south Hausa and Yoruba used during and after the war is a divisional propaganda. SOUTH SOUTH AND SOUTH EAST IS KNOWN BEFORE THE WAR AS EASTERN REGION, WE ARE BIAFRA NATION! EASTERN REGION UNITE!

As we said it over and over, the 1966 coup was not an Igbo coup although Hausa  and Yoruba keep on branding it Igbo Coup to maintain status quo.

Here are the names and tribes of the plotters of January 15, 1966 military coup:

  1. Maj. Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu (Niger Delta or Delta State - Igbo).

  2. Maj. Adewale Ademoyega (Yoruba) author of "Why We Struck".

  3. Capt. G. Adeleke (Yoruba).

  4. Lt. Fola Oyewole (Yoruba) author of "The Reluctant Rebel".

  5. Lt. R. Egbiko (Ishan).

  6. Lt. Tijani Kastina (Hausa Fulani).

  7. Lt O. Olafemiyan(Yoruba).

  8. Capt Gibson Jalo (Bali).

  9. Capt. J. Swanton (Middle Belt).

  10. Lt. Hope Haris Eghagha (Urhobo).

  11. Lt. Dag Warribor (Ijaw).

  12. 2nd Lt. Saleh Dambo (Hausa).

  13. 2nd Lt. John Atom Kpera (Tiv).

  14. Ifeajuna (Igbo).

From the list above how can someone termed the coup of 1966 Military Coup as an Igbo coup.

Truth is bitter:

“What has constantly escaped most Nigerians in this entire travesty is the fact that mediocrity destroys the very fabric of a country as surely as war – ushering in all sorts of banality, ineptitude, corruption and debauchery. Nations enshrine mediocrity as their modus operandi, and create the fertile ground for the rise of tyrants and other base elements of the society, by silently dismantling systems of excellence because they do not immediately benefit one specific ethnic, racial, political, or specific interest group. That, in my humble opinion, is precisely where Nigeria finds itself today.”
Prof Chinua Achebe

Prof Achebe summarized the origin and future of the problems of the Nigerian state in those few lines. Catchment area, federal character, state of origin, all these destroyed the country that was Nigeria. My friends in primary school from the North scored less than 100 in the common entrance exams (note the word common) they all went to federal government colleges, while I scored 222 and was denied admission since I was from the south. These people are now heading organisation where the people they head are far smarter than them. What do you expect from such an arrangement? A Disaster - Kelechi Anodere
