The Obi's Family

Obi is a name and a name means aha in Igbo

family means ezi ụlọ

father means nna or papa

mother means nne or mama

grandfather means nnanna

grandmother means nnenne

husband means di

wife means nwunye

boy means nwoke

girl means nwanyị or agbọọ or agbọọbia

brother means nwanne nwoke

sister means nwanne nwanyị

children means ụmụ or ụmụaka

twin children means ụmụ ejima or just twin means ejima

Son means nwoke but the first son means ọkpara. The first son suppose to behave better and guide all the sons, if he is not doing that and the second or the third son is behaving better than the first son, their father may decide to nickname the second or the third son as ọkparanna or diọkpara meaning father's first son.

Daughter means nwanyị or agbọọ or agbọọbia but the first daughter means ada. The first daughter suppose to behave better and guide all the daughters, if she is not doing that and the second or the third daughter is behaving better than the first daughter, their father would nickname the second or the third daughter as adanna meaning father's first daughter. Mother can also do the same by nicknaming one of the daughters as adanne meaning mother's first daughter. However, mother and father may decide collectively to nickname a daughter as adaanyi meaning our first daughter.

Now if I say aha nne wu Ngozi
I am quite sure you know what I mean
what I mean above is mother's name is Ngozi

If I say aha ezi ụlọ wu Obi
I am sure you know what I mean
what I mean above is the family name is Obi

Learn the Use of "wete" or "weta" in Igbo

In Igbo language wete, weta, bute or nyem means the same thing which is bring, using any of them is appropriate.

If I ask you wete ite what did I mean?
Well, what I mean here is bring a pot.

What of weta ri This means bring food.

You can use na to join or connect words, the same way (and, at, in, on, with) used

John, Glory and Peter are sitting on a bench

John wearing shirt, tie, trouser and shoe
John yi uwe elu, eriri olu, uwe ukwu na agbalukwu

Glory wearing dress and shoe

Learn the Use of "ya" in Igbo

In Igbo language ya means the person, his, hers or can equally mean him or her.
Like other words in Igbo Language, when ya is used, the item or
the name of the thing should be said first

For example in English: This is John's hand
In Igbo you say: aka John

In English: This is his hat
In Igbo: Okpu ya

In English: Leave him
In Igbo: Hapu ya

In English: Her name is Ngozi
In Igbo: Aha ya bu Ngozi

In English: Give them food
In Igbo: nye ha ri

In English: Come in
In Igbo: Bata

Now what do I mean by the following:

Learn the Use of "kadụ" in Igbo

Kadụ is a word that has flexible usage.

In Igbo greetings kadụ can be used as hello or how are you.

Kadụ can be used as what, like kedụ maka ụmụ meaning what of children

kadụ can be used as where, like kedụ ibe di gị gara meaning where did your husband go

kedụ can be used as when, like kedụ ngbe John gara meaning when did John go

kedụ can be used as how, like kedụ ngbe omere meaning how did it happen

kedụ can be used as who, like kedụ onye mere ya meaning who did it

kedụ can be used as which, like kedụ nke bu nke gị meaning which of these are yours

Learn to Write a Letter in Igbo

In Igbo language, letters can normally be composed the same way they are composed in English language. The salutation, attention, closing remark, signature, etc., on average they are the same in formula but the only difference is that the letter is written in Igbo language.
