		Learn the Use of “wete” or “weta” in Igbo Language In Igbo language wete, weta, bute, nye or nyem means the same thing which is bring, even though some people may argue that nye is give, while nyem or nye mụ is give me, however using any of them to signify bring is appropriate. Thus, wetara mụ or nye mụ means give me or bring me. Being that you’re learning simple Igbo language, it is better for you to use wete or weta all the time because everybody will understand you clearly instead of trying to mix it with bute or nye. Or even butere mụ or nye mụ Wete or weta is used many times, over and over in Igbo language. Sometimes some people may put biko in front of wete or weta to complete a sentence. Biko wete means please bring or give. Bring money = wete ego or please bring money = biko wete ego. Bring comb = wete mbo or please bring comb = biko wete mbo. Bring food = wete ri or please bring food = biko wete ri. Bring me salt = wetere mụ nnu or please give me salt = biko wetere mụ nnu. Bring me a plate = wetara mụ efere or please give me a plate = biko wetara mụ efere. Give me pepper = wetere mụ ose or please bring me pepper = biko wetere mụ ose. Bring a hat = wete okpu or please bring a hat = biko wete okpu. With wete, weta, wetara mụ or wetere mụ you can get away with mixing the word in Igbo and English. For example, a mixture with Igbo and English that can be understood: wete rice = bring rice or please bring rice = biko wete rice. Another mixture with Igbo and English that can be understood: wete orange = bring orange or please bring orange = biko wete orange. Bring me a cup = wetere mụ iko or please bring me a cup = biko wetere mụ cup. Give me a pot = wetara mụ pot or please give me a pot = biko wetara mụ ite. If I say wete mbo what did I mean? Well, what I mean here is bring a comb. What of weta ri, this means bring food. Now figure out the following by looking above: What is wete okpu? What is weta iko? What is wete ose? Learn the Use of “na” in Igbo In Igbo Language “na” is used many times, the same way and, at, in, on, with are normal used in English Language. John, Glory and Peter In English you would say: John, Glory and Peter In Igbo you would say: John, Glory na Peter You can use na to join or connect words, the same way and, at, in, on, with are used John, Glory and Peter are sitting on a bench John, Glory na Peter nọna benchi John wearing shirt, tie, trouser and shoe John yi uwe elu, eriri olu, uwe ukwu na agbalukwu Glory wearing dress and shoe Glory yi uwe ruru ala na agbalukwu Peter wearing similar clothe as John Peter yi uwe dika nke John Nna mụ na nne gara ahia The above in Igbo means below in English My father and mother went to the market Bona na Ngozi riri ri The above in Igbo means below in English Bona with Ngozi ate the food or Bona and Ngozi ate the food Thus, the above is a small demonstrate on how you can use “na” to join or connect words. Learn the Use of “ya” in Igbo In Igbo language ya can mean a person, the person, his, hers or it can equally mean him or her. Like other words in Igbo Language, when ya is used, the item or the name of the thing should be said first For example in English: This is John’s hand In Igbo you would say: aka John In English: This is his hat In Igbo: Okpu ya In English: Leave him In Igbo: Hapụ ya In English: Leave him alone In Igbo: Hapụ ya aka In English: Her name is Ngozi In Igbo: Aha ya bụ Ngozi In English: Give him food In Igbo: nye ya ri In English: He should Come in In Igbo: ya bata The above is to demonstrate how “ya” is used in various sentences. Now what do I mean by the following: aka ya This means his or her hand (if you look at the human parts aka means hand) moto ya This means his or her car (if you look at motor vehicle moto means car) nye ite This means give pot (if you look at names of items you will ite as pot) Mazi Obi bata (ya bata) This means Mr Obi should come in or he should come. azu ya This means his/her or their fish and can equally mean his or her back. uwe ya This means his or her clothe nye ya na John azu This means give him, her or them and John fish Clearly you can see how “ya” is used in various sentences and how important it is in Igbo Language. 	Learn the Use of “kedụ” in Igbo Kedụ is a word that has flexible usage or meaning. In Igbo greetings kedụ can be used as hello or how are you? Kedụ can be used as what, like kedụ maka ụmụ meaning what of children? kedụ can be used as where, like kedụ ibe di gị gara meaning where did your husband go? kedụ can be used as when, like kedụ ngbe John gara meaning when did John go? kedụ can be used as how, like kedụ ngbe omere meaning how did it happen? kedụ can be used as who, like kedụ onye mere ya meaning who did it? kedụ can be used as which, like kedụ nke bụ nke gị meaning which of these are yours? Obviously, you can see how “kedụ” is used in various ways and knowing how to use it well will be an asset to you which you can manipulate during communications if you run short of words to use. Back

In Igbo language, letters can normally be composed the same way they are composed in English language. The salutation, attention, closing remark, signature, etc., on average they are the same in formula but the only difference is that the letter is written in Igbo language.
